Trust and Safety Communications

At Zoom, we aim to be one platform delivering limitless connection and happiness to our users. We maintain this commitment through our culture of trust, safety, and respect. With the reality of email scams and other online schemes attempting to take advantage of your trust, it is important to us that you are informed about the types of communications our Trust and Safety team might send when we need to get in touch with you.

Transparency is another core value of our culture here at Zoom. Thus, we strive to notify our users about any actions our Trust and Safety team may take regarding their accounts. This page was designed to help you understand and verify the authenticity of emails our Trust and Safety team may send.

When will we notify you?

Our Trust and Safety Team sends various communications to our users, depending on the situation. These notifications are related to the following:

  • We will send this notification if we detect any potential risks or security concerns with your scheduled meetings.

  • If any user on your account or your account usage as a whole violates our Acceptable Use Guidelines or our Terms of Service, you will receive a communication from our Trust and Safety team.

  • We will promptly notify you if we suspect any unauthorized access or a takeover of your account.

  • Our policy is to notify users of requests for their data unless we are legally prohibited from doing so (e.g., by a court under 18 U.S.C. § 2705) or the matter involves child endangerment, an emergency involving danger of death or serious physical injury to a person, or a threat to Zoom services, rights, or property.

Who will we notify?

The notification will be sent to different users depending on your account type. If you have a free account, we will notify the individual user directly. If you have a paid account, we will notify the account owner and whomever the account owner designates to receive Trust and Safety communications.

How do I validate Trust and Safety communication?

We understand that ensuring the authenticity of emails from our Trust and Safety team is crucial to maintaining the security of your Zoom account. To help you distinguish legitimate communications from potential phishing attempts, here are some key indicators to look for:

  • Check the sender’s email address carefully. Legitimate communications from our Trust and Safety team will always come from an official Zoom email address, such as no-reply@zoom.us, noreply-usernotification@zoom.us, or tns-no-reply@zoom.us. Be cautious about emails sent from suspicious or unknown email addresses.

  • Genuine communications often include the official Zoom logo, our company colors, and consistent formatting. Phishing attempts may replicate some of these elements but differ from an exact match.

  • Our Trust and Safety team will never ask for your password, credit card information, or other sensitive information via email. If you receive an email requesting such information, be wary and avoid responding.

  • Pay attention to the quality of writing in the email. Legitimate communications will be professionally written and free of significant grammatical errors while phishing attempts typically contain noticeable mistakes.

  • If you ever receive a verification code or any other sensitive information from our Trust and Safety team, do not share it with anyone. Official Zoom communications will never ask you to share verification codes or sensitive data with third parties.

What should I do if I receive an email that does not look like it is from Zoom?

If you receive an email that doesn’t look like it is from Zoom or appears suspicious, consider taking the following precautions to protect your security and privacy:

  • Be cautious about clicking links within emails, especially if the email is unexpected or asks for sensitive information. Instead, manually type the official Zoom website address (zoom.us) into your browser to access your account.

  • Never reply to a suspicious email or provide personal or sensitive information, such as passwords, credit card details, account information, password, or a Customer Managed Key (only available for certain types of accounts).

  • If you have any doubts about the authenticity of an email claiming to be from our Trust and Safety team, contact our official support team directly. They can assist you in verifying the email’s legitimacy.

  • If the email is not from Zoom, use our Trust Form to report it to our Trust and Safety team.
